Improving accessibility to the museum and working with visitors with disabilities

PURPOSE: Improve and facilitate the access to the exhibition halls of the National Museum of History for visitors with disabilities and introduce European working practices.
TIME: 2007
FUNDING: Agency for people with disabilities
RESULTS: The project provided equal access to the cultural-historical heritage at the National Museum of History for people with disabilities, as well as for elderly people with difficulties. It installed special ramps leading to the entrances and the elevators in the left wing of the museum, tactile markings and automatic entrance/exit doors. During the project, standard toilet facilities for people with disabilities were built. The staff at the National Museum of History was trained to work with people with disabilities. A working strategy for improving the access to the services and the museum halls was created.
