Preservation of two early christian tombs (late 4th - early 5th century)

PURPOSE: Conservation, fortification and restoration of two rare brick-wall early Christian tombs (late 4th – early 5th century) from the western necropolis of antique Serdica, located at the center of Sofia; creation of a protective installation against the harmful influence of the environment and establish access to the site in the National Museum of History garden.
TIME: November 2008 – October 2009
FUNDED BY: USA State Department – Ambassador’s Fund for Cultural Restorations/AFCR/.
RESULTS: Conservation, fortification and restoration of the tombs and creation of a protective installation against the harmful influence of the environment.
The tombs may be seen in the museum garden.
