The Holy Martyr George Church researches in the village of Trudovets

The first stage of the researches on the Holy Martyr George Church in the village of Trudovets will be completed. The excavations were organized by the National Museum of History with the financial support of the Botevgrad Municipality. PhD candidates of the National Archaeological Institute with Museum at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences and of the New Bulgarian University, employees from the Municipal Historical Museum – Botevgrad and from the ‘Earth and People’ Museum – Sofia took part.

The Church was built in the second half of the 14th century in “a bog”. It was studied at the beginning of the 20th century by the historian, Professor Petar Mutafchiev, who gave a detailed description of the preserved murals.

According to the legend, the church could only be reached by boat. The above has been confirmed archaeologically.
